To RPMS Parents, Students & Staff:

I hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful summer we’re having.  Hopefully you are all relaxing and taking time off because believe it or not it’s time to start thinking about the upcoming school year.  I’m very excited about this year and looking forward to some great things at Rosa Parks.  I am personally thrilled to welcome Dr. Donna Jones as our new Principal.  Her experience, energy, and enthusiasm will make this a terrific year for students, parents, teachers and staff.

Rosa Parks is a great school, and we have been able to provide many programs and activities for our students.  The themed school dances, Earth Day, the 8th grade trip to Hershey Park, and many others are all made possible because of the dedication of the staff and parents in our community.  The success of these programs and others like them depends on the commitment of our parent volunteers.  I know we all have busy schedules and many other responsibilities.  However, supporting the education and programs for our students should be a priority.  Our kids know when we think something is important because we show them by committing our time and or money.  When we show that we value their school programs we are giving them hard evidence that we value what they do in school.

Everyone can make a difference; there are many activities that involve only small commitments of time.  Please consider volunteering for even one committee or program.   Included in the summer mailing you should have already received is a volunteer form, please complete this form and let us know where you are interested in helping out.  We will use these forms to contact individuals who expressed interested in a particular activity.

In addition, don’t forget to join the PTA.  Becoming a member gives you the right to vote at a meeting, and provides you with the all-important school directory.   We rely on membership and donations from our direct appeal to fund the great things we do for the school.  The membership/directory/donation form was also included in the summer mailing.  Please, please join the PTA and make whatever donation you can to help out.  Don’t forget to provide information for the directory also.  All of this can also be done on-line at the PTA website (www.rpmspta.org).  We need your help!

Our website will be updated to include current 2009-2010 PTA Officers.  Any one of us is always available via email to answer any questions you may have.  Our Yahoo! Group is also a great way to stay informed, so make sure you sign up.  Visit the PTA website at:  www.rpmspta.org.  The link for the Yahoo! Groups is included on that site.

The PTA is looking forward to a very successful year for all students, parents, teachers and staff.  Please feel free to send me an email with any questions, thoughts, concerns or ideas.  I look forward to hearing from you and meeting you!

Sincerely,

Michele Setton, 2009-2010 PTA President
