PTA Meeting Notes – 2006-07 School Year

Unapproved Minutes from May 16th Meeting

Present: Lori Kurtzman, Sarah Pinkney-Murkey, Debbie Karitis, Victoria Thanos, Louise Lund, Amy Gearhart, Rachel Maines, Louise Lighter, Kelly Mazzeo, Ellen Quirk, Don Worm, Ruth Marin, Gina Quinn, Tina Velazquez, Dean and Franca Kimmel, Christine Parker Smith, Jane Nickerson

The meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m

Prior to tonight’s meeting the RPMS Middle School Counseling Dept., Counseling Advisory Committee, and PTA presented a program to educate parents about how to keep your child safe on the Internet. FBI agent, Michael Miller who works with monitoring Internet safety on a daily basis led the discussion.

The minutes for the April 2007 meeting were approved by Deb Karitis/Victoria Thanos.

Treasurer’s Report – Please turn in any outstanding receipts to Deb Karitis by June 14th.

A Motion was passed to rollover any leftover funds to the sign account (minus the $2500 rollover for next year). Hospitality $ moved to Staff Appreciation

Parent surveys are on the RPMS School Website. Password – parents. Last year only 3% of parents responded

Should take about 12 minutes to complete

Principal’s Report – Both assistant principals present. Calendar Items (from Joanne):

  • Letter going out to 8th grade parents later this week.
  • Awards ceremonies – 8th 5/30; 7th 6/1, 6th 5/31
  • Book fair next week M-TH
  • 8th Grade Dance: June 2nd 7:30-10:00pm
  • 8th Grade Celebration at Longwood 6/14th 9am-12
  • Exams begin 6/8, review 6/7, exam schedule will be on website
  • Staff Appreciation next week
  • Outdoor Ed – tomorrow
  • Exams reviews start the 7th posted on the Rosa Parks Web site

Richard Dorsey – the building services manager has kept the school in tip top shape. He’s doing a wonderful job…. school looks terrific. The outside windows, doors , pillars and stantions have all been painted, the curbs are being repaired.

Cultural Arts- upcoming April and May events

8th Grade Activities

Activites are all on track for day at Longwood and for the 8th grade dance at Rosa Parks.
Dance
Last all school dance was April 20th. The Dance netted $652. 6 teachers sign-up to chaperone each dance along with our parent chaperones. Everyone did an excellent job and the students had a great time.
Guidance Advisory Committee- No current updates
Latino Liaison – No current updates
Membership – No current updates
Staff Appreciation –Staff appreciation week will the whole week of May 14th – May 18th, Thank you to all the parents involved, especially Carolyn Quinn, Trisha Pignone, and Karin Kurnot.
MCCPTA – Meeting is 4th Tuesday of every month – PTA Position needs to be filled

Need some one to oversee it… need good teacher contact to continue serving efficiently. Michelle Setton and Amy Matathias have been doing a wonderful job. New Business:

PTA Executive Board for 2007-2008 Voting

All were in favor (none opposed) of accepting the PTA Executive Board for 2007-2008

  • Amy Gearhart, 2007-2008 PTA President VP’s will advance a grade.
  • 8th grade Victoria Thanos and Kelly Mazzeo
  • 7th grade Roni Septoff and Jane Nickerson
  • Secretary- Rachel Maines

New Rosa Parks Sign:

$6200, Sarah Pinkney-Murkey needs to have Montgomery County approve the sign and design, before the PTA moves forward

Terry Heintze, AP, asked (PTA) to fill out consensogram re: rating RPMS

June 7th PTA party at Amy Gearhart’s home 4-7 p.m.

The PTA adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
