The RPMS PTA meeting was call to order by Cindy Keating, PTA president, at 7:30 p.m., in the school media center, on March 12, 2013.  Board members present included: Cindy Keating President, Amy Katzman 7th Grade VP, Christine Lucas Secretary, Maureen Dymond Treasurer.

Principal’s Report: RPMS principal, Dr. Donna Redmond Jones, welcomed parents and delivered the principal’s report.  She spoke of her gratitude for all the community and PTA support for RPMS.  RPMS has received a great deal of media attention recently, especially for the Rosa Parks birthday celebration.  In 2013-14, RPMS will have an increase in staffing. The Physical Education class is a very large class but it may get a bit smaller in 2013-14. There will no longer be a Family & Consumer Sciences class. However, RPMS will have a new Robotics class which will be held in planned, newly-modified classroom. RPMS plans renovating bathrooms during the summer 2013.  Dr. Jones reminds all of us to call or email RPMS when our children will be out or sick during school days.

PTA President Report: Cindy Keating, PTA president:

The PTA has openings: Book Fair Chairperson, Volunteer Coordinator (puts volunteers in touch with event chairpersons) and Membership Chairperson (or co-chair with another person). Please consider one of these fulfilling positions – that way there is time to train with the current member in that position.  The RPMS website includes a Montgomery County School and RPMS calendar (iCal) that can be downloaded to a MAC or Microsoft Outlook. The RPMS Spring Scholastic Book Fair dates are: April 8-12. During these daily hours, the fair will be open for students to purchase items: 7:20am – 8:15am; 10:50am – 1:00pm; 2:30pm – 3:00pm. Delegate Report: Paul Geller.  A postcard entitled “MCCPTA every child. one voice.” was distributed. After signing it, it is mailed to the Montgomery County School Council encouraging them to continue funding our schools at an appropriate level.

Treasurer’s Report: Maureen Dymond, PTA Treasurer: The RPMS budget started out with a positive balance. The goal is to spend the balance in order to give back to the school.

The PTA meeting was called to order by Cindy Keating, PTA President, at 7:30 PM in the RPMS Media Center on October 8, 2013.  Board members introduced and present were: Cindy Keating, President, Grade VP, Kellie Blake, 8th Grade VP,  Amy Katzman, 8th, Ginger Twombly 7th Grade VP, Susan Donsky, 6th Grade VP, Cheryl Chartier, Treasurer, Christine Lucas, Secretary.

Principal’s Report: Dr. Donna Redmond Jones, welcomed parents to the new school year. Dr Jones thanked the PTA for volunteering their efforts on events such as the Pre-service Week luncheon for staff, creating and working at the back-to-school night information tables, and purchasing Robotics Kits for students. Dr. Jones stated that 13 new security cameras have been added along with 2 access control systems to the school. Additional staff has been hired for the 6th grade which is experiencing a high class size this year. PTA President’s Report: Cindy Keating, PTA President

  • RPMS is seeking a Book Fair Chairperson or persons.  The fair is the week of December 2.  The revenue (usu. ~$3,000 – 5,000) goes to the RPMS Media Center.  For information/questions please contact Cindy Keating at (301) 758-6709 or cjkeating1@verizon.net.
  • Please sign up for the “Partners in Education” – when you sign up a percentage of your purchase at many stores go to RPMS. The RPMS school # is 02893.  The form can be found on the RPMS website above.

Delegate Report: Paul Geller, MCCPTA Delegate.  Two resolutions, the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and the Operating Budget Priorities were both approved.

Treasurer’s Report: Cheryl Chartier, Treasurer.  The budget was approved.

Guest Speakers:  Ms. Dana Shelton and Mr. Chris Swank discussed the Core Curriculum and how it affects the RPMS Departments of Math and Algebra curriculum.
